Sugarcane is a tropical-semitropical plant belonging to the grass family. It was known to India from prehistoric times. It was used to produce cane sugar from very early days. The first Europeans to see sugarcane ware the invaders who cam with Alexander in 325 BC. One of them described it as a grass that produced honey without bees!
