1885 – The Origin of what we today refer to as the Congress Party. A group of common people who wanted to voice their opinion formed the Indian National Congress. The purpose of this group was to voice and support Indian opinion to the then British Government. Later the congress party was officially founded in Mumbai then Bombay. Currently Rahul Gandhi heads the Indian National Congress.
1942 – The legendary actor Rajesh Khanna was born on this day in 1942 to Lala Hiranand Khanna and Chandrani Khanna in Amritsar, Punjab. His parental name was Jatin Khanna but later changed to Rajesh in Bollywood. Rajesh Khanna was adopted by Chunnilal Khanna and Leelawati Khanna. He appeared in 163 films throughout his career of over two decades and won three film fare awards
1983 – The legendary cricketer makes the then highest test #cricket score 236 and remain not out against deadly West Indies pace attack. This was 6th test match of West Indies tour of India at Chennai held between 24th to 29th December, 1983. Gavaskar scored 236 of 425 deliveries with India declaring their inning at 451 while batting second. West India scored 313 in their first innings and 64 at the loss of 1 wicket during their second innings. The match was declared to be drawn.
