Rahul Gandhi - The Future Prime Minister

Once upon a time, when the doom was far away, the night had not settled down, when the cheers were loud; #India’s first non-congress single party majority government led by NDA (National Democratic Alliance) was formed. Oooppsss….did I miss #Modi? EDIT: India’s first non-congress single party majority #government led by #Narendra Damodardas #Modi was formed under NDA. As of 13th day of December, 2018, #Independent #India is now 71 years, 3 months, 28 days old. For those who love numbers as of 13th day of December 2018 at 1030 HRS;

How old is Independent India?

  • India is 855 months, 28 days #Old OR

  • India is now 3721 weeks and 6 days old OR

  • India is now 26,053 days old OR

  • India is now 625,272 hours old OR

  • India is now 37,516,320 minutes old.

  • India is now 2,250,979,200 seconds old.

For how many Years did Congress Ruled India? For how many years did Nehru-Gandhi family ruled India

From the odd 71 years, over 37 years was ruled by Nehru family, excluding non-Nehru-Gandhi prime ministers appointed by Indian National Congress. Indian National Congress candidates headed Independent India for 49 years. So #India witnessed 22 odd years of non-#congress ruling till 2018, including the 4.5 years of incumbent prime minister.

The Contribution of Indian National Congress in India's Development

We as a nation have achieved, witnessed, contributed and led major #achievements in various fields, as a result of that, is what we are today (how you perceive today i.e. good-neutral-bad is up to you?). And majority of such #progress were under the shadow of #Indian National Congress OR either UPA (United Progressive Alliance). But the question is not what we achieved under NDA or UPA? It’s about the pace at which #India progressed; the pace at which #economic reforms were made to strengthen #India as a nation; the pace at which the technological reach is spread across the rural segment of Indian society. It’s about the pace at which world realized potential of India as a world leader. It’s about the pace at which Indian population is made self-dependent. It’s about the number of infamous decisions taken by Indian government against the mass but in the benefit of India as a nation.

We achieved that we are today and we must be thankful to the Indian Government mostly led by Indian National Congress (INC). Hence, the argument of INC did nothing as a government, holds no value. But, are we happy with what India is today? The answer is NO! Majority of us are not happy with, what we are at the age of 71 years, as a nation. And hence, it becomes important for us to understand India from 2014 to 2018, the same way as we understand our home, before we elect new government in 2019; the same way as we think before changing our job.

Narendra Damodardas Modi - The incumbent Prime Minister of India

Without any dispute Modi government, has bought many reforms but the dispute is with regards to the effectiveness of these reforms. Indian economy has come a long way when compared to the economic status of the country in the year 2014. A slew of economic transformation had been undertaken since then in order to ensure the development of the marginalized section of Indian society.

The GST (Goods and Services Tax) Journey of Modi Government

One of the major milestones was the introduction of the unified GST which replaced the existing complex structure of the sales tax and customs duty. It helped our nation to achieve the long cherished dream of one nation and one tax. It removed the boundary between states which earlier used to have complex and variable rate of excise duty, sales tax and other multiple taxes. The unified tax system has removed the cascading effect of taxes. It has helped in reducing the tax burden on manufacturing sector, hence reducing the manufacturing cost. The segmentation of goods and services based on its demand in economic strata of the society has enabled government to maintain strong hold on the goods and services, that is generally consumed by economically lower section of Indian society. Moreover, GST also allowed the option for input tax credit along with an improved compliance system. The improved compliance system has forced businesses to be more transparent and tax officers to be more responsible. The nexus between tax officers and business is dented to some extent and will reduce it further.

The fiscal story of Modi Government

The fiscal deficit was hovering at around 4.5 per cent of GDP in the year 2014 which has considerably narrowed down to 3.5 per cent in the current financial year. (Fiscal deficit is an economic condition, stating that the expenditure was more than the revenue generated within the fiscal year, excluding money from borrowings.) E.g. If you spend more than your salary in your home budget and have not included the money you’ve borrowed from others as your income. 3.5% of Indian GDP is approximately 6.67 trillion rupees.

But how does economic deficit affects you and me as a common man. Think of it as a situation, when you exceed your expenditure than your income. Like it attracts, loans, compromises on family's development and to some extent disrespect within society. Every time when you would attract an expenditure, consciously you will be made aware that you have an overdue. Indian economy deficit is somewhat similar to the situation. Minimal deficit would mean you have more freedom and respect in your home. to live with.

Major achievement of Modi Government

The ambitious Jan Dhan Yojna was a big success, during this time frame more than 13 crore new bank accounts were opened to bring the last person of our society under the umbrella of organized banking and it helped in gaining financial inclusion to a great extent. But, how did opening bank accounts contributed to the benefit of economy? Banks are very important pillar of economic cycle, the strength of the economy is not in its total capacity/amount but the amount in circulation and the number of people involved in that circulation. It can be understood simply with an example; imagine a situation wherein about, INR 1, 00,000 is circulated through 100 hands while the same 1, 00,000 is circulated through 1000 hands. Economy benefits greatly by its reach, with Jan Dhan account economic reach and its contributor has increased.

Similarly, the Ujjawala Yojna launched by the #Modi government was successful in helping more than 3.2 crores poor women to cook meals using LPG stoves, against the traditional use of woods as fuel. The use of LGP against wood for cooking will not only help poor people avoid regular health illness, save labor, save time but also it will contribute in maintaining the green ecosystem. Imagine, when about 3.2 crore people will not go out in jungle in search of wood.

India gained substantially in the ranking of ease of doing business from 142nd spot to an impressive 77th rank based on global index. The jump is humongous and it only tells about the commitment of our Gujarati prime minister Modi, to simply the business doing environment with long term vision. There are innumerable steps taken to target within the top 50 rankings in ease of doing business by Government of India.

Demonetization, in a country like India where freebies promises receive victorious mandate by people, we have a leader who showed courage to ask his voters to bring out money from home lockers and deposit in bank. Demonetization has a long vision, unlike Jan Dhan that increased the number of hands in circulation; demonetization ensured the money in circulation is increased. Reduced accumulation of wealth and inclusion of the currency notes that was not within the economy has led to increased lending capacity of banks, more money in circulation and hence, controlled inflation.

Indian economic system is a very complex structure and hence it needed some basic restructuring with long vision. The general will of political leaders are short termed and limited to winning elections, thus such much needed reforms are rarely witnessed but these steps are beyond any political benefits. #Modi government has taken many other steps or expedited the overall process but GST (Goods and services tax), Demonitisation, Jan Dhan Yojna and the reduced fiscal deficit are four major points to consider before you change the person at job.
